I am awestruck by where I live. I drive just outside of the city and suddenly I am surrounded by stunning granite peaks, wild and pristine forests or crashing ocean waves. Hiking and backpacking have become integral parts of my life over the last few years. There is something primally satisfying about carrying everything I need to survive on my back, and being stripped down to only the most basic of decisions. Where will I sleep? What will I eat? How do I keep putting one foot in front of the other when I’m dead tired? This getting back to basics is my kind of heaven.
